TV5 and MediaQuest Networks Post Massive Ratings Growth in 2025: The New Force in Philippine TV

The Philippine broadcast landscape is undergoing a seismic shift. Recent data released from the GMA Annual Stockholders Meeting, citing Nielsen Total Day Ratings (January–December 2025), reveals a significant climb for TV5 and its sister channels under the MediaQuest umbrella.

While GMA Network maintains its lead, the real story lies in the aggressive growth of the "Kapatid" network and the rising dominance of its digital and free-to-air counterparts, RPTV and One PH.

TV5: Solidifying the Number 2 Spot

TV5 has firmly established itself as the primary alternative for Filipino viewers. According to the Urban National ratings, TV5 garnered a solid 14.8% Audience Share and a 2.5% Household Rating.

The network’s strategy of diversifying content—mixing top-tier news, high-stakes sports, and popular entertainment programs—has clearly paid off. In the competitive Mega Manila market, TV5’s share climbs even higher to 15.2%, proving its strong resonance with the urban demographic.

The RPTV Phenomenon

One of the biggest surprises in the 2025 data is the performance of RPTV. Launched as a collaborative venture, RPTV has quickly surpassed older, more established digital channels.

  • Urban National Share: 3.7%
  • Mega Manila Share: 4.2%
  • Urban Luzon Share: 3.9%

By capturing a higher audience share than the Kapamilya Channel (3.5% National) and A2Z in certain metrics, RPTV has become a vital player in the MediaQuest portfolio, providing a home for live sports and classic programming that keeps viewers tuned in.

One PH and the Power of Niche Programming

While One PH focuses on news and public service, its 0.9% National Audience Share remains competitive in the specialized news category, often outperforming several other digital-only niche channels. Combined with the reach of One Sports (which fuels much of the content on RPTV and TV5), the MediaQuest group offers a multi-platform synergy that is difficult to beat.

Comparative Ratings Table (Urban National 2025)

Channel Audience Share Household Rating
GMA 44.4% 7.5%
TV5 14.8% 2.5%
GTV 9.1% 1.5%
A2Z 6.2% 1.0%
RPTV 3.7% 0.6%
Kapamilya Channel 3.5% 0.6%

Why the Shift is Happening

The rise of TV5 and RPTV can be attributed to three main factors:

  1. Sports Dominance: Through One Sports, MediaQuest holds the rights to the biggest leagues (PBA, PVL, UAAP), driving massive weekend traffic.
  2. Strategic Partnerships: Collaborations with various content providers have allowed TV5 to fill its grid with high-quality variety shows and teleseryes.
  3. Signal Expansion: Better reach and clearer digital signals have allowed RPTV and TV5 to penetrate households that were previously loyal to other networks.

As we move further into 2026, all eyes are on TV5 to see if they can break the 20% share barrier. One thing is certain: the "Big Two" era has evolved, and the Kapatid network is leading the charge into a new age of Philippine television.
