VIBE+ASAP SOON? TV5 and ABS-CBN Reportedly Considering Back-to-Back Sunday Timeslots for Vibe Plus and ASAP XP

TV5 and ABS-CBN are reportedly weighing a major programming shift that could feature back-to-back Sunday daytime slots for TV5’s "Vibe Plus" and ABS-CBN’s flagship musical variety show "ASAP XP".

Under the proposed arrangement being discussed by network insiders, "Vibe Plus" would occupy the 11:00 a.m. slot, paving the way for "ASAP XP" to return to its traditional noontime slot at 12:30 p.m. This prospective change comes several months after ABS-CBN moved its long-running Sunday variety program to a 5:30 p.m. primetime block.

Speculation surrounding the lineup adjustment grew following a series of guest appearances by regular "ASAP XP" performers on TV5's music countdown show. The crossover began when Maymay Entrata and Angeline Quinto appeared on the first-anniversary episode of "Vibe" on August 15, followed by Ogie Alcasid on August 22, and Nyoy Volante alongside Erik Santos on August 29. Veteran singer Martin Nievera is also scheduled to perform on September 5.

While neither network has officially confirmed the adjustment, the talks build upon their ongoing content-sharing partnership. TV5 currently airs several Kapamilya productions—including "Coco Martin’s Sigabo," "Someone Someday," "Blockbusters sa Umaga," "Kapamilya Deal or No Deal," and "Everybody Sing"—while ABS-CBN platforms carry Kapatid titles such as "A Secret in Prague," "My Bespren Emman," and "Face To Face with Ate Koring." As of now, the strategic Sunday block remains purely in the discussion phase with no final schedule changes officially announced.

We Are Pathetic By Our Own Doing': Open Letter Rips GMA Executives Over Growing ABS-CBN Dominance

Tensions are rising within the broadcasting landscape as an unsigned open letter targeting top executives of GMA Network surfaces online.

The candid critique accuses the Kapuso management of undermining its own creative talents while handing prime television real estate to ABS-CBN content and personalities.

The letter spares no feelings regarding the return of Vice Ganda’s hit late-night talk show, Gandang Gabi, Vice! (GGV), which is set to air on both ABS-CBN platforms and GMA. Critics in the letter call out the move as an insult to homegrown Kapuso comedians like Boobay and Tekla—whose show The Boobay and Tekla Show (TBATS) lost its slot—and bring up past controversies involving veteran journalist Jessica Soho.

The GGV Revival Controversy:

The letter slammed Vice Ganda’s announcement that GGV will broadcast on GMA, questioning why the network continues to uplift external stars at the expense of local talent.

The Noontime Dilemma: It criticized GMA for giving the former Eat Bulaga! time slot to ABS-CBN's It's Showtime instead of greenlighting an original project created by GMA's in-house writers and producers.

Drama Collaboration Backlash: Co-productions in drama and teleseryes were labeled as a tacit admission that ABS-CBN remains superior in drama production, despite Kapuso shows often outperforming them in traditional broadcast ratings.

Media Expansion: The document highlighted Vice Ganda's recent two-year creative partnership with MediaQuest (TV5) while maintaining ties with ABS-CBN and appearing on GMA, dubbing the situation an unfair distribution of network clout.

"GGV, It's Showtime, drama collaborations—ABS-CBN benefits the most. It distributes its programs through GMA while one of its biggest stars expands into MediaQuest and TV5. The irony is painful: ABS-CBN has increasingly invaded the airwaves of the network that supposedly won the war. We are pathetic by our own doing."

While cross-network collaborations were initially praised as a historic shift for Philippine TV following the loss of ABS-CBN's broadcast franchise in 2020, this latest backlash highlights growing internal and fan fatigue over the dynamic. Neither GMA Network nor ABS-CBN executives have issued an official statement regarding the leaked letter.

MVP on ABS-CBN: No Investment Talks, But Partnership Remains Open

Manuel V. Pangilinan (MVP), chairman of MediaQuest Holdings, has addressed the ongoing speculation surrounding his potential investment in ABS-CBN Corp., clarifying that there are no current discussions regarding a takeover or capital infusion into the media network.

Speaking on the sidelines of a recent PLDT media briefing, the veteran businessman emphasized that his focus remains on content-based collaborations. "We are not thinking of anything with ABS-CBN except the arrangements where they show some of their content, blocktime, or co-production situations," Pangilinan stated.

A "Vote of Confidence"

While ruling out a direct investment, Pangilinan expressed optimism regarding the network’s recent financial developments. ABS-CBN recently announced a P6-billion equity infusion, backed by the Lopez family and private investment firm I&C Holdings Corp.

"That’s good. Good for them,"
Pangilinan remarked, signaling a supportive stance toward the network's efforts to strengthen its balance sheet and pivot toward a more sustainable, content-led business model.
Strengthening Industry Ties
The relationship between MediaQuest (which oversees TV5) and ABS-CBN has been characterized primarily by strategic content partnerships. Currently, several ABS-CBN series and programs, including those featuring industry heavyweights like Coco Martin and Vice Ganda, continue to find a home on TV5 and other platforms.

Pangilinan took the opportunity to praise the caliber of talent currently working across various networks. He specifically highlighted Vice Ganda, whom he dubbed the "Queen of all networks" for the performer's ability to bridge audiences across GMA, ABS-CBN, and TV5, and commended Coco Martin for his work ethic and entrepreneurial mindset.

Moving Forward

With the recent equity raise and ongoing blocktime agreements, ABS-CBN is pushing to navigate its post-franchise landscape. For now, industry watchers can expect the status quo to remain: a competitive yet cooperative media environment where giants like MVP and the Lopez family prioritize content distribution over corporate mergers.

Johnny Manahan Candidly Reflects on ‘Vibe+’ Journey and Ratings Game at First Anniversary

As the OPM-focused musical variety show Vibe+ celebrates its first anniversary, veteran director Johnny Manahan—affectionately known as Mr. M—is looking back at the show’s journey with both pride and a realistic outlook.

The program recently held a star-studded celebration at the MVP Studio in Mandaluyong City, featuring performances by Angeline Quinto, Maymay Entrata, and Elha Nympha.

Reflecting on the past year, Mr. M admitted that the experience has been a whirlwind. "Unbelievable, andito pa kami (We are still here)," he shared during an interview. He noted that the program had to start from scratch to build its identity, eventually choosing to anchor itself firmly in OPM (Original Pilipino Music).

When asked about the show’s standing in the competitive ratings game, Mr. M was candid. "I don’t think [we are] competitive yet. But we are getting there. We are close to being competitive, at least somehow," he said with a smile.

Despite the slow climb in ratings, Mr. M finds optimism in how the show has gained traction and recognition among viewers and artists alike. He notes that the feedback has been encouraging, with many viewers pleasantly surprised by the show's quality.

"Nakikilala na kami ng viewers, saka mga artista (Viewers and artists are finally noticing us)," he added. While he acknowledged the inherent pressure of producing a television show, he expressed confidence in his team, noting that they are seasoned industry professionals capable of delivering high-quality content.

As Vibe+ steps into its second year, it is clear that Mr. M and his team are committed to carving out a lasting space for OPM in the Filipino television landscape.

Hindi Namin Sinunog ang Tulay”: Vice Ganda Opens Up About Past Hurt, TVJ, and New MediaQuest Partnership

Breaking Barriers: From Past Pain to a Fresh Start

Unkabogable Box-Office Superstar Vice Ganda recently bared all regarding why saying yes to a major career move did not come easily. During the formalization of a groundbreaking creative alliance dubbed “The Phenomenal Partnership” with Manuel V. Pangilinan’s MediaQuest Holdings on August 12, 2026, the iconic TV host addressed past tensions.
Recalling the heart-wrenching period when It's Showtime had to leave its noontime slot on TV5 back in 2023, Vice candidly admitted experiencing initial hurt.

“Inaamin ko medyo sumama loob ko pero di ba, in this industry naman we don't burn bridges. So ako, dahil nagustuhan ko ang layunin nila, I eventually said yes,” Vice shared.

Rather than holding grudges, the comedian stressed the importance of giving oneself space to heal. “I allowed myself to heal muna. Parang valid naman siguro kung nagtampo ako. Pero I did not close doors. I did not burn bridges. Sabi ko nga, there was never a time na binad-mouth ko 'yung TV5 after that,” Vice added.

Clearing the Air on TVJ

Addressing questions about the veteran trio Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon (TVJ) and Eat Bulaga's subsequent entry into TV5, Vice made it clear that there is no bad blood whatsoever.

No Personal Resentment:

“Wala akong sama ng loob sa TVJ, ha. TVJ has nothing to do with it.”

Professional Respect: “Wala naman akong relationship or deal with them. Hindi naman sila 'yung nakasakit sa akin. Wala naman silang obligasyon sa akin. TVJ was just doing their job also as well, as entertainers.”

The Reign of the "Queen of All Networks"

With this monumental partnership sealed at The Lighthouse in Meralco Center—attended by MVP Group Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan and MediaQuest President and CEO Victorico P. Vargas—Vice Ganda officially earned the prestigious title of “Queen of All Networks.”

Looking forward, fans can anticipate fresh, unique content and exciting formats outside of what they usually see on daily television. As both sides look to strengthen the future of television, this collaboration marks an inspiring new chapter of growth, resilience, and unbridled entertainment.

TV5 at 18: Midlife Crisis or Strategic Rebirth? Media Critic Slams Network’s Identity Struggles Amid Channel Realignments

As TV5 marks its 18th anniversary under its current corporate banner, the network finds itself under the microscope.

While management celebrates milestones and major industry collaborations, media commentators like Timow Turf are calling out what they view as a persistent identity crisis—likening the network's continuous strategy shifts to a perpetual "midlife crisis".

For a deeper look at these developments, you can check out the full reports on TV5 Brand Marks 18th Anniversary and TV5 Unveils Bold Lineup & Powerful Vision.

The Core Critique: A Network Searching for Its Lane

In dissecting TV5's trajectory, Timow Turf pointed out that despite hitting legal age, the Kapatid Network often appears stuck in a "finding myself" phase. From fluctuating programming lineups and short-lived self-reliance initiatives following partnerships with ABS-CBN, to frantic scheduling changes that resemble playing Tetris at max speed, the network has struggled to lock down a permanent identity.

Is TV5 a premier sports authority, a credible news hub, a glorified landlord for blocktimers, or an entertainment powerhouse? According to Timow Turf's critique, trying to squeeze into all these lanes at once has left audiences dizzy and struggling to build true brand loyalty.

Reactions to Timow Turf's Vlog: Clash of Perspectives

Timow Turf's sharp commentary has sparked heavy reactions across media circles, drawing distinct lines between critical analysis and official network strategy:

  • On Partnerships vs. Self-Reliance: While Timow Turf dismisses TV5's reliance on external alliances—such as its block-time and content arrangements with ABS-CBN—as a sign of failing independence, network leadership views collaboration as an essential strength for expanding viewer reach.
  • On Channel Realignment Chaos: Timow Turf lambasted the frequent channel shuffles and major cuts in the pay-TV lineup as chaotic "Tetris at max speed." In contrast, the MVP Group presents the clear structural split—designating TV5 for entertainment, RPTV for relays and public service, and One Sports exclusively for major leagues—as a streamlined solution to past audience confusion.
  • On Digital Transitions (DTT): Addressing the network's push toward digital terrestrial television, Timow Turf argued that superior technical signals and 1080p high definition matter little if viewers remain fundamentally discontented with the programming itself, warning that management must fix underlying content issues rather than just shuffling time slots.

Leadership Perspective: The Power of Collaboration and Streamlined Channels

Despite the external criticisms from commentators like Timow Turf, TV5 leadership remains focused on expansion and structural clarity. During recent industry presentations, TV5 Network Inc. President and CEO Mr. Guido R. Zaballero strongly defended the network's collaborative approach, emphasizing that shared storytelling benefits audiences, creators, and advertisers alike.

To address past confusion regarding overlapping content, the MVP Group has clearly segmented its properties:

  • TV5: Focused entirely on 100% Entertainment, News, and Public Service.
  • RPTV: Serves as a relay network featuring news, public service, and favorite programs like Eat Bulaga, Wow Mali, and Wanted sa Radyo.
  • One Sports: Operates as a 100% Sports channel housing premier leagues like the PBA, UAAP, and PVL.

The Road Ahead: Content vs. Technology

As the network navigates the government's digital terrestrial television (DTT) transition schedule leading toward the end of the decade, critics like Timow Turf emphasize that crystal-clear high definition means little if viewers remain discontented with the programming itself. For TV5 to truly thrive past its 18th year, the challenge isn't just about upgrading technology or shuffling time slots—it's about giving audiences a solid, undeniable reason to stay.

Vice Ganda Seals Historic Creative Partnership with MediaQuest Holdings, Inc.

Asia's Phenomenal Box Office Superstar and Comedy Ace, Vice Ganda, officially signed a landmark creative partnership with MediaQuest Holdings, Inc.

The momentous event marks a monumental shift in the local showbiz landscape, bridging one of the country's most formidable media conglomerates with a defining icon of pop culture.

A New Chapter for the Unkabogable Star

This strategic alliance ushers in an exciting new era for Vice Ganda, amplifying a career defined by record-breaking milestones and widespread cultural impact. Together, MediaQuest and the superstar entertainer aim to push creative boundaries, promising to deliver bigger, bolder, and more meaningful entertainment experiences tailored for Filipino audiences worldwide.

White Knight Reveal: Ramon Ang officially Secures 25% Stake in Lopez Empire

In a move that has sent shockwaves through the Philippine business landscape, San Miguel Corporation (SMC) President and CEO Ramon S. Ang has officially entered the boardroom of the Lopez Group. Ang has acquired a significant 25% stake in Lopez Inc., the privately held holding company that sits at the apex of one of the country’s most storied business conglomerates.

A Strategic Foothold

This acquisition grants Ang a major foothold in a powerful portfolio that includes energy giants First Philippine Holdings and First Gen, the property developer Rockwell Land, and the media conglomerate ABS-CBN Corp.

According to reports, the stake was acquired from Crème Investment Corp., which represents the family branch of former ABS-CBN chair Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III. When reached for comment by InsiderPH, Ang confirmed the purchase but clarified that the deal is currently limited to the shares held by this specific family branch. Asked about further acquisitions within the Lopez family, Ang succinctly replied that other shares are “not for sale.”

What This Means for the Market

The entry of Ang—known for his aggressive expansion and operational turnaround expertise—into the Lopez sphere is being viewed as a "White Knight" moment, particularly amid ongoing internal discussions and challenges within the Lopez Group.

While the financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, the market is already buzzing about the potential synergies between San Miguel’s vast infrastructure and energy interests and the Lopez Group’s extensive holdings in power generation, natural gas, and property.

As the dust settles on this major ownership shakeup, all eyes will be on how this partnership reshapes the strategic direction of the Lopez empire in the months to come.

What If ABS-CBN and ABC-5 Never Faced the Martial Law Shutdown? The Alternate Reality of Philippine Media

What If ABS-CBN and ABC-5 Never Faced the Martial Law Shutdown?

The Alternate Reality of Philippine Media
When discussing the giants of Philippine television, names like ABS-CBN and GMA Network instantly come to mind. Today, media history is often viewed through the lens of fierce rivalry and shifting landscapes. However, a massive historical pivot point fundamentally changed the trajectory of local broadcasting: the declaration of Martial Law in 1972.

This raises a fascinating alternate history question: If ABS-CBN and ABC-5 had never been shut down during Martial Law, would they be bigger than GMA today?

To find the answer, we have to look back at how the broadcast industry operated before September 1972, and how a 14-year interruption altered the course of Philippine entertainment.

Some programs being aired on ABS-CBN from 1953-1972

1. ABS-CBN Was Already an Untouchable Titan in 1972

Before the dictatorship forced its closure, ABS-CBN (pioneered by the Lopez family) wasn't just leading the ratings—it was miles ahead of everyone else.

 * Technological Pioneers: They introduced color television broadcasting to the Philippines and Southeast Asia and possessed state-of-the-art transmission gear.

 * Unmatched Capital: Their roster of talent, massive infrastructure, and national reach dwarfed competitors like GMA (then known as RBS), which were still smaller players trying to scale up.

Had ABS-CBN enjoyed an uninterrupted run through the 1970s and 1980s, they would have accumulated an unassailable financial lead.

They would have transitioned into cable, satellite technology, and early digital archiving decades ahead of time, creating a media monopoly so massive that catching up would have been nearly impossible.

2. The Myth of the Post-1986 "Easy Comeback"

Many casual observers forget that when ABS-CBN returned to the airwaves after the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution, they started completely from scratch.
Their historical archives were decimated, their facilities had been mismanaged or repurposed by Marcos cronies (such as Roberto Benedicto running BBC-2 out of their old headquarters), and they had zero operating capital.
The fact that ABS-CBN managed to claw its way back to the top spot within just a few years of its 1986 rebirth is a testament to corporate resilience. Without the 14-year blackout forced by Martial Law, GMA Network would have faced a continuously compounding titan, making its own fierce rise in the late 90s and 2000s an entirely different uphill battle.

Some of the programs being aired on ABC-5 from 1960-1972

3. The Alternate Fate of ABC-5 (now TV5)

While ABS-CBN's story is one of reclaiming dominance, ABC-5 (now TV5) tells a story of prolonged dormancy. Founded originally in 1960 by the late owner of The Manila Times --Mr. Joaquin "Chino" Roces, ABC-5 was similarly silenced when Proclamation No. 1081 was signed.

Unlike ABS-CBN, which aggressively mobilized its return in 1986, ABC-5 stayed off-air for two decades, only returning in 1992 under new management. Because it missed the golden age of 1980s television expansion, the network spent much of its later history playing catch-up, undergoing multiple ownership shifts and rebrandings.

Had ABC-5 never been shut down in 1972, it could have matured alongside ABS-CBN into a stable, deeply entrenched major network decades earlier, shaping a three-way powerhouse race instead of a duopoly.

The Verdict

ABS-CBN didn't just match GMA's size later in history—it historically outperformed and out-earned GMA by substantial margins during its peak years, despite losing over a decade of operational history.
If Martial Law had never happened, ABS-CBN wouldn't just be "as big as GMA"—it would likely be an unassailable, multi-billion-dollar global media conglomerate operating on an entirely different scale.

LM's Note: History is shaped by the moments that disrupt it. While we can only imagine what an uninterrupted Golden Age of Philippine TV would look like, the resilience of our local broadcast networks remains a testament to the talent of the Filipino workforce.

TV5 Brand Marks 18th Anniversary: Navigating Identity, Channel Realignment, and a Renewed Partnership with ABS-CBN

As TV5 celebrates its milestone 18th anniversary under its current branding, the network finds itself at an intriguing crossroads of transformation, strategic realignment, and audience engagement. Amidst ongoing discussions regarding programming shifts and network identity, TV5 President and CEO Mr. Guido R. Zaballero recently highlighted a vital milestone during the 2026 Midyear Media & Trade Presentation: the network’s powerhouse collaboration with ABS-CBN.

A Shared Vision: The Renewed ABS-CBN Partnership

Addressing trade partners and viewers, Mr. Guido R. Zaballero emphasized the core philosophy driving the network forward:

"Our partnership is built on a simple shared belief that when great stories reach more people, everyone benefits. Our audiences, our creators, our advertisers."

Zaballero further noted how this alliance shapes the future of local television content:

"This year also reaffirmed the power of collaboration with a renewed partnership with ABS-CBN, thus allowing more and more Filipinos to discover TV5 content while opening new opportunities for audiences to enjoy and even more great Filipino stories para sa mga Kapatid at Kapamilya."

Clearer Channels: Defining TV5, RPTV, and One Sports
Recent structural adjustments across MVP Group properties have also clarified where specific content lives, streamlining the viewing experience across platforms:

TV5 (Channel 5 Manila): Now serves as a dedicated hub focusing on 100% Entertainment, News, and Public Service programming.

RPTV (Channel 9 Manila): Houses Sports, News, and Public Service content (featuring select TV5 and 105.9 True FM programs like Eat Bulaga, Wow Mali, and Wanted sa Radyo).

One Sports (Channel 41 Manila): Operates as a 100% Sports channel dedicated to premier leagues such as the PBA, UAAP, PVL, and One Fighting Championship.

This clear segregation answers past confusions regarding sports versus entertainment programming, aligning with historical broadcasting precedents where major networks successfully balance diverse rosters. As TV5 Network steps further into its legal age with a consolidated programming lineup—ranging from weekend blockbusters to news staples—the network continues to redefine its narrative landscape for Filipino households everywhere.

TV5 Chief Guido Zaballero Remains Tight-Lipped on Rumored MVP-RSA Takeover of ABS-CBN

TV5 President and CEO Guido Zaballero stays silent regarding rumors of a potential multibillion-peso investment and takeover by business tycoons Manny V. Pangilinan and Ramon S. Ang.

During the recent “Tara, Kapatid!” 2026 Midyear Media & Trade Celebration held at the TV5 MVP Studios, entertainment media members pressed TV5 President and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Guido R. Zaballero for comments regarding ongoing industry rumors.

Speculation has been circulating online, claiming that business magnates Ramon S. Ang (RSA) of San Miguel Corporation and Manny V. Pangilinan (MVP) of First Pacific and PLDT were finalizing a P3.5 billion deal that would involve a rescue package and a shift in management control concerning ABS-CBN.

ABS-CBN has already moved to deny these circulating reports. When asked for his take on the situation, Mr. Zaballero declined to comment, emphasizing that the matter falls outside his administrative scope.

"That's something that is, to tell you honestly, beyond my pay grade. So I have no knowledge. I cannot answer that. I have no knowledge about any transactions," Zaballero stated to the press.

Despite follow-up questions regarding a possible collaboration between the two business titans for the network, the TV5 executive maintained his stance. He did, however, acknowledge the long-standing professional relationship between the two figures.

"I think RSA and MVP have been collaborating even in the past. We've seen their partnership in infrastructure and other businesses, so there really is a relationship between the two," he noted.

Following his response, Zaballero shifted the focus to expressing his appreciation for the audience's continued support of TV5’s growing lineup of programs.

Eat Bulaga! Maintains Single Channel Lead Over It's Showtime on August 1 Ratings

The Philippines' longest-running noontime variety show, Eat Bulaga, hosted by the iconic trio of Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon (TVJ) and the rest of the Legit Dabarkads, has once again asserted its dominance in the television ratings battle. According to preliminary and overnight data from Nielsen NUTAM People Ratings for August 1, the TV5 airing of Eat Bulaga secured the top spot among the major noontime programs.

The Ratings Breakdown

The data, released by Nielsen, shows a clear gap between the competing shows on the date.
Eat Bulaga (TV5): The legendary show, now airing on TV5 under TVJ's new production, garnered an impressive 3.5% rating. This figure is a testament to the enduring popularity of the main hosts and the show's classic format, which resonates deeply with Filipino audiences.
It's Showtime! (GMA): The Kapamilya noontime show, airing on GMA Network, registered a 3.2% rating. While a strong contender, it fell short of the Eat Bulaga viewership for the day.

A Wider View of the Noontime Landscape

The ratings landscape is more complex, with shows appearing on multiple channels. A more comprehensive breakdown provided by Nielsen includes simulcasts and other platforms:

Eat Bulaga (TV5): 3.5%
It's Showtime! (GMA): 3.2%
It's Showtime! (GTV): 0.7%
It's Showtime! (A2Z): 0.7%
It's Showtime! (Kapamilya Channel): 0.4%
Eat Bulaga (RPTV): 0.2%

When summing the ratings across all channels for It's Showtime!, the aggregate audience is significant, but for the specific main broadcast head-to-head on the major terrestrial channels, TVJ's Eat Bulaga (on TV5) emerged victorious over It's Showtime.
(on GMA).

Victory for the Dabarkads

This ratings success is a huge morale booster for the Eat Bulaga team and its legion of dedicated fans, affectionately known as the "Dabarkads." The move to TV5 has been a strategic one, and these numbers indicate a successful transition and retention of its core audience.

The battle for the noontime slot remains fierce, but for August 1 at least, the original Eat Bulaga with TVJ is the undisputed ratings champion.

Congratulations to the entire production team and the hosts!
