“Kaya Natin 'To”: Heaven Peralejo Gets Emotional as She Bids Farewell to the Iconic 'University Series'

Actress Heaven Peralejo recently took to social media to share a deeply emotional reflection as she faces the culmination of the hit television franchise, the “University Series.”

In a viral social media post reflecting on the journey, Peralejo opened up about how difficult it is to find the exact words to express her feelings about the series coming to an end. Rather than sadness over the final book, her overwhelming emotions stem from looking back at how humble and uncertain their beginnings were.

A Leap of Faith Amid Massive Pressure

Looking back at the inception of the project, Peralejo admitted that she and the cast felt immense pressure. As the pioneers tasked with giving life to the first installment of the massive Wattpad-hit University Series (originally penned by author Gwy Saludes), they faced heavy doubts over whether viewers would embrace them.
Recalling their early promotional days, she shared that mall tours were far from packed at the start. Yet, right before stepping onto the stage, the cast held onto a simple mantra that became their anchor: “Kaya natin 'to.” (We can do this.)

From One Story to a Massive Legacy

That initial leap of faith eventually paid off as public support grew steadily. What started as a single story blossomed into a massive six-part narrative universe.

"One story became six. Isang pangarap na naging tahanan para sa aming cast at sa lahat ng sumabay sa journey na ito," Peralejo expressed.
For the actress, saying goodbye goes far beyond just parting ways with a character—it is closing a life-changing chapter. She ended her heartfelt message with profound gratitude for everyone who believed and poured love into the University Series, emphasizing that the journey will forever hold a special place in her heart.

MTRCB Summons ‘It’s Showtime’ Producers Over Controversial ‘Memerimar’ Skit and Colorist Remarks

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has officially summoned the producers of the popular noontime show ‘It’s Showtime’ following a wave of public backlash and complaints regarding its July 24, 2026 episode.

In an official two-page notice to appear signed by MTRCB Chairperson and CEO Lala Sotto, the regulatory body directed representatives from GMA Network Inc. and ABS-CBN Corporation to attend a hearing. The inquiry centers on the show's "Laro Laro Pick" segment, specifically a "Memerimar" skit featuring TV host and comedian Vice Ganda and Ion Perez.

Grounds for the Summons

According to the MTRCB, the agency received numerous complaints from concerned citizens citing alleged inappropriate scenes, colorist remarks, and racially insensitive jokes made during the broadcast. The controversy primarily revolves around Vice Ganda’s alleged remarks and a dramatic "lugaw" scene performed alongside Ion Perez.

The regulatory board noted that these allegations raise serious questions regarding whether the program complied with Section 3(c) of Presidential Decree No. 1986, which prohibits the airing of television programs contrary to law, good customs, public order, public morals, or those that are otherwise objectionable.

Public Apology and Online Reactions

Following the backlash, Vice Ganda issued a public apology before the conclusion of the July 25 episode for the jokes made the previous day.
Despite the apology, the issue has ignited widespread discussions across social media platforms. Netizens and public commentators have drawn comparisons to past controversies involving other noontime programs, fueling intense debates regarding broadcast standards, fairness, and allegations of bias in regulatory actions.

The respondents were ordered to appear before the MTRCB Hearing and Adjudication Committee, with warnings that failure to do so would be treated as a waiver of their right to present evidence.

TV5 Slips to 9.7% Audience Share in First Half of 2026 Following ABS-CBN Partnership Split, GMA still dominates at #1 big time

Credits: Infinitri Creatives

The Philippine television landscape has undergone a major shift as media giant GMA Network further cemented its dominance, widening its viewership lead in the first half of 2026.

According to the latest figures from the National Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM) covering January 1 to June 30, 2026, the Gozon-led broadcaster secured an overwhelming 45.8% audience share. The network's stronghold is further highlighted by the fact that 27 out of the 30 most-watched television programs during this six-month period were produced by the Kapuso Network.

TV5 Slides, GTV Closes In

While TV5 managed to retain the second spot overall, it experienced a noticeable drop in viewership. Its audience share declined sharply to 9.7%, down from 14.5% in 2025. Industry analysts point to the termination of TV5's partnership agreement with ABS-CBN on the first day of 2026 as a key driver behind the Kapatid Network's struggle to maintain its former audience levels.

Hot on TV5's heels is GMA Network's subsidiary channel, GTV, which closely trailed in third place with a 9.6% audience share for the first half of 2026.

AMBS ALLTV2 Surges, A2Z Holds Steady

In a reverse of fortune, Advanced Media Broadcasting System’s (AMBS) ALLTV2 experienced a massive ratings boost, climbing to a 6.7% audience share. This surge follows a strategic content partnership with ABS-CBN, which brought the Kapamilya Network's entire lineup to the Villar-owned station after a previous struggle to draw viewers.

Meanwhile, A2Z—the ABS-CBN-affiliated broadcast channel owned by Zoe Broadcasting Network—generated a stable 5.4% audience share.

Rounding out the Top 10 most-watched television channels are GMA’s digital offerings (I Heart Movies and Heart of Asia), ABS-CBN’s 24/7 pay-TV stations (Kapamilya Channel and CineMo), and TV5’s sister network (RPTV).

First Half 2026 TV Channel Rankings & Audience Shares

Rank Channel / Network Audience Share Key Highlights / Notes
1 GMA Network 45.8% Dominant ratings leader; produced 27 of the top 30 shows.
2 TV5 9.7% Dropped from 14.5% in 2025 due to the split with ABS-CBN.
3 GTV 9.6% GMA's subsidiary channel, closely trailing TV5.
4 ALLTV2 (AMBS) 6.7% Saw a major ratings surge following its content partnership with ABS-CBN.
5 A2Z 5.4% Zoe Broadcasting Network channel affiliated with ABS-CBN.

Is the Lopez Family Selling Their Empire for ₱45 Billion (including ABS-CBN)?

It looks like the long-standing feud and family drama within the Lopez family are finally coming to a close or reaching a major turning point. According to reports, family members allied with former ABS-CBN boss Gabby Lopez III are preparing to sell their massive share in the family's main holding company, Lopez Inc.

A Super Billionaire is Making a Move

Rumors from the inside reveal that one of the richest and most powerful billionaires in the Philippines is close to finalizing a deal to buy a 70.83% share in Lopez Inc. The price tag? An astounding ₱45 billion!

Here are the groups selling their shares:

  • Mantes Holdings Corp. (29.17%): Includes the camp of Manuel Lopez Jr., Miguel Lopez, Martin Lopez, and Maita Lopez-Lichauco.
  • Crème Investment Corp. (25.68%): Includes Gabby Lopez, Maria Rosario Lopez, Rafael Lopez, and other family members.
  • Presta Holdings Co. Inc. (15.98%): Headed by Lauro Pangilinan III, Maria Eugenia Brown, and the Psinakis family.

Who is Left Out?

The only group sitting out of the sale is Croslo Holdings Corp., which holds the remaining 29.17%. They represent the branch of the late Oscar Lopez Jr., which includes Federico "Piki" Lopez along with their siblings and cousins.

What Happens If This Pushes Through?

Lopez Inc. sits right at the very top of the entire Lopez family business empire. This means that if this mystery billionaire successfully buys it, they will also gain control over:

  • ABS-CBN (the popular media network)
  • First Gen and First Philippine Holdings (power and energy companies)
  • Rockwell Land (well-known real estate and malls)

Simply put, this is a massive shift in Philippine business history if this agreement pushes through!

TV5 and GMA Network Lead Digital TV Push: The Evolution of Philippine Broadcasting Standards and HD Viewing

The landscape of Philippine television continues to undergo a massive digital transformation, with major broadcasting giants GMA Network and TV5 aggressively expanding their digital terrestrial television (DTT) coverage across the country.

Both networks effectively reach all cities and municipalities across Mega Manila, blanketing Metro Manila along with the surrounding provinces of Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, and parts of Batangas.

Head-to-Head Comparison: Reach, Infrastructure, and Standards History

A direct look at their digital footprint highlights their ongoing rivalry, historical positioning, and technical standards debate:

TV5: Operates 37 digital stations nationwide, offering the exact same geographic reach across Mega Manila as its competitors. TV5 is available directly via terrestrial digital broadcast and maintains extensive distribution through local cable and satellite providers. Historically, TV5 adopted the Japanese standard (ISDB-T) early on, positioning itself as an early frontrunner in digital readiness, while maintaining a smaller overall national viewership share compared to market leaders. Furthermore, TV5 continues to upgrade its viewer experience, highlighted by initiatives like airing TV5 in High Definition (HD) starting April 1, 2024 on platforms like Cignal Channel 15 (now airing on Channel 255 as Kapatid Channel), delivering a widescreen 16:9 cinematic viewing experience ("parang sine ang panonood").

GMA Network: Operates 36 digital stations across the country and boasts the widest national reach, with digital coverage matching or exceeding its legacy analog broadcasts. GMA heavily captures the television market in Mega Manila and blankets over 93% of Philippine television households overall.

The Standards Debate and Transition Challenges

The path to a fully digital landscape has not been without controversy. In the earlier years of the digital transition, debates surfaced regarding which broadcasting standard the Philippines should mandate. While networks like TV5 integrated the Japanese ISDB-T standard early, GMA Network initially advocated for the European standard (DVB-T2), citing its technical superiority at the time, while clarifying that tests using alternative standards did not mean an immediate formal adoption of ISDB-T.

Furthermore, network executives have previously urged caution regarding timelines for a complete analog shutdown. GMA Network Chairman and CEO Felipe Gozon noted that full transition targets face hurdles regarding household readiness, affordability, and overall economics. Drawing comparisons to international transitions like the United States—which took over a decade to fully move away from analog—broadcasters emphasize that economic conditions play a crucial role in determining when true nationwide television digitalization will fully materialize.

Despite economic constraints, consumer adoption of digital receiver devices—such as the GMA Affordabox, which sold around 1.2 million units by early 2021—alongside continuous upgrades to HD broadcasting by networks like TV5, demonstrates a strong consumer and industry appetite for higher-quality digital entertainment.

My Bespren Emman Episodes 50-60 Recap: Unmasking the Truth

The gripping drama of My Bespren Emman continues to reach new heights, with the latest string of episodes (50-60) delivering some of the most shocking revelations yet.

As the story moves forward, the stakes for Mateo (JM de Guzman) and Ruth (Shaina Magdayao) have never been higher, blending high-octane suspense with the show’s signature emotional core.

The Mask Falls: A Mastermind Exposed

The most significant development in this arc is the long-awaited unveiling of the true antagonist behind the syndicate operations. After weeks of suspicion and mounting tension, the narrative finally pulls back the curtain: the mastermind behind the robbery is none other than Governor Jacob Mereilles (Michael De Mesa) , the father of Joshua (Sid Lucero).

This revelation sends shockwaves through the community, particularly for Joshua, who must now grapple with the moral fallout of his father’s criminal legacy. The betrayal is deeply personal, further complicating the already strained dynamics between the characters.

Ruth and Joshua: The Buried Past

Beyond the crime thriller elements, these episodes delve into the romantic history between Ruth and Joshua. Before Mateo entered Ruth’s life, she and Joshua shared a past that was previously shrouded in mystery. With these secrets coming to light, the emotional foundation of Ruth’s present life with Mateo faces its ultimate test. Will their relationship survive the weight of the past?

Redemption vs. Reality

As Mateo continues his path toward healing and redemption—guided by his mysterious friend, Emman (portrayed by Ely Buendia) —he finds himself pulled back into the chaotic world he fought so hard to leave behind. Despite his desire for a simple, honest life with Ruth and their daughter Miriam (Ryrie Sophia) , the corruption surrounding the Mereilles family forces Mateo into a corner where he must decide between his moral convictions and the survival of his family.

Why You Can’t Miss These Episodes:

Narrative Twists: The revelation of Governor Mereilles as the primary villain changes the show's landscape, moving from a standard crime drama to a high-stakes political thriller.

Character Depth: We see a more vulnerable side of Joshua, torn between family loyalty and justice, and a more resilient Ruth as she confronts her former flame.

The Power of Faith: Despite the darkening plot, the series maintains its inspirational roots, constantly reminding viewers of the possibility of second chances even in the face of deep betrayal.

As My Bespren Emman transitions into Book 2 (titled as "Ang Totoong Laban"), the tension remains palpable.

The journey of Mateo and Ruth is far from over, and with the truth about the syndicate finally in the open, the battle for redemption has only just begun.

TV5 and Cignal Streamlines Portfolio, Creating Unified 'Kapatid' Content Powerhouse

Mandaluyong, Philippines – In a significant strategic move, TV5 Network Inc. together with it's sister company, Cignal TV has initiated a major corporate reorganization, consolidating its diverse media assets into a more focused and powerful content ecosystem. This restructuring represents a shift toward a singular, unified "Kapatid" brand identity across its platforms.

The Big Picture: One 'Kapatid' Vision

At the heart of this strategy is the elevation of the "Kapatid Channel" identity. Launched on December 29, 2025, the channel serves as a central hub for MediaQuest's content. By funneling its programming—including content from TV5 and its sister cable brands—into this ecosystem, the company is aiming to create a cohesive viewing destination for audiences.

Strategic Channel Realignment and Cessation

The consolidation has resulted in significant changes to the Cignal TV lineup as MediaQuest moves away from its previous partnership models to prioritize its internal, centralized content strategy.
Key developments include:
Sari-Sari Channel Closure: After a decade of operations, the Sari-Sari Channel officially ceased broadcasting on June 1, 2026. This move followed the decision by MediaQuest Holdings to not renew its carriage and partnership agreement with Viva Communications. The channel, a joint venture between the two companies, signed off for the final time just after midnight on June 1, 2026.

Consolidation of BuKo and True TV: As part of the broader shift toward the "Kapatid" brand, MediaQuest is streamlining its cable offerings. Channels like BuKo and True TV are increasingly being positioned as contributors to the centralized Kapatid ecosystem rather than independent, standalone entities. These two channels are to sunset by the end of this month.

Cignal Play Evolution:

MediaQuest is also strengthening its digital direct-to-consumer services, focusing on platforms like Cignal Play to house its vast library of content, a move that aligns with the broader industry trend of transitioning away from traditional linear cable partnerships toward unified, company-owned digital platforms.

What This Means for Viewers

For the Filipino audience, this consolidation promises a stronger, more consistent viewing experience under the Kapatid banner. While the loss of established channels like Sari-Sari marks the end of an era for many viewers, MediaQuest is clearly prioritizing a strategy that centralizes its high-quality, localized entertainment and news programming into a single, powerhouse brand.
Stay tuned as we continue to track these major shifts in the Philippine media landscape.
