Kahit sa broadcasting, ramdam na rin ang krisis sa langis!
In a surprising move to maintain operational stability, 93.9 iFM Manila (DWKC), a flagship FM station of the Radio Mindanao Network (RMN), has officially announced a reduction in its daily broadcast hours.
Beginning March 10, 2026, the station will go temporary off-air daily from 12:00 AM to 3:00 AM.
Why is iFM Manila Cutting Airtime?
The decision stems from the "big-time" oil price hikes currently affecting the country. In a statement released via their social media channels, the station management explained that the adjusted schedule is a proactive measure to manage rising overhead costs and ensure the long-term viability of their operations.
"Ito ay kaugnay ng inaasahang malaking pagtaas ng presyo ng langis, at upang masigurado na patuloy na magiging maayos ang operasyon ng iFM Manila," the station shared.
A Growing Trend in the Industry?
iFM Manila is not the only entity adjusting to the economic climate. The government and several private sectors have already begun implementing shortened workweeks and adjusted work schedules to mitigate the impact of soaring petroleum prices.
While iFM's sister station, DZXL 558 AM, has not yet announced a similar schedule change, industry observers are watching closely to see if other major FM and AM players will follow suit to conserve energy and resources.
What This Means for Listeners
For the "Ka-iFM" community, this means a three-hour silence during the graveyard shift. While the move is temporary, it highlights the significant impact that fuel costs have on the broadcasting sector, which relies heavily on a consistent power supply and logistical support.
As the energy crisis continues, the broadcast landscape in the Philippines may see further shifts in how stations balance 24/7 service with economic sustainability.
