Xyriel Manabat Vows Action Against TNVS Driver Over Lewd Remarks, Grab Investigates

MANILA, Philippines – Actress Xyriel Manabat, known for her role in the upcoming Netflix film "18th Rose," has publicly expressed her dismay and vowed to take action against a Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) driver who allegedly posted lewd and sexualizing comments about her online. The incident, which occurred just days before the premiere of her highly anticipated movie, has sparked widespread outrage and prompted an immediate investigation by Grab Philippines.

The controversy erupted when a TNVS driver, identified by the account name "Boss Toyo Mansi," reportedly shared a selfie with Manabat on social media. Accompanying the photo were inappropriate captions and comments, including phrases like "ang laki ng bata na ’yan" and other indecent remarks such as "jak*l". The post quickly went viral, drawing condemnation from netizens and fans who rallied behind the actress.

Manabat recounted that the photo was taken on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, during a routine ride to work. She expressed profound shock and disappointment, emphasizing that despite her kindness and even tipping the driver, she was met with such disrespectful behavior. "Hindi ko ’yan papalampasin. Hindi dapat gawing entertainment ’yan in any form. I hope the platform or app will do something about this. It is not petty," Manabat stated in an interview, asserting her resolve to pursue the matter.

A staunch advocate for women's rights and the marginalized, Manabat reiterated her commitment to speaking out against such injustices. "I am never scared to express my passion about protecting women, victims of any gender and age — those who are voiceless. There is nothing to be scared. It fuels reason to be more brave and spread awareness," she added, highlighting the broader implications of the incident.

Grab Philippines has since responded to the outcry, confirming that they are investigating the matter. The company issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter), extending its apologies to Ms. Manabat and affirming its "zero tolerance for inappropriate contact and other misconduct." As part of their investigation, the driver-partner involved has been placed under preventive suspension.

This incident casts a shadow over what should be a celebratory period for Manabat, as her first lead role in the Netflix film "18th Rose" is set to premiere on April 9, 2026. In the film, she stars alongside Kyle Echarri, portraying a story of a small-town girl named Rose whose perfect 18th birthday plans go awry. The timing of the controversy underscores the challenges public figures, particularly women, face in maintaining their privacy and dignity in the digital age.
