Hyun Yul Kim emerged as the Grand Winner of Foreignoy: The AFAM invasion on Eat Bulaga!
The Philippine noontime stage has a new bright star, and he hails all the way from South Korea. Hyeonyul Kim, more affectionately known by Dabarkads as Yul, is making waves after being crowned the Grand Winner of Eat Bulaga’s hit segment, "Foreignoy: The AFAM Invasion."
Beyond the trophy and the title, Kim has officially joined the ranks of the "Legit Dabarkads," proving that being Filipino is not just about where you were born, but where your heart truly belongs.
From Viral Translator to Noontime Star
Long before he stepped onto the Eat Bulaga stage, Hyeonyul Kim was already a familiar face in the K-pop community. Known as the "Viral Concert Translator," Yul gained fame for his idol-like visuals and charm while assisting major Korean acts like Stray Kids and ENHYPEN during their Manila shows.
However, his journey took a massive turn in May 2025 when he bested 63 other contestants to win the "Foreignoy" grand title and the Dabarkads' Choice Award. His ability to speak Tagalog, his participation in traditional Filipino activities (like learning how to do laundry manually on TV!), and his undeniable chemistry with the hosts made him an instant fan favorite.
'TVJ Helped Me': A Grateful Dabarkads
In a recent interview with News5, Kim expressed his deep gratitude toward the legendary trio of Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon (TVJ). He credited the veteran hosts and the entire Eat Bulaga family for guiding him as he transitioned from a social media personality to a television host.
"Actually for my experience before, i was just singing, dancing and acting... but I was not aware of communicating with audience, but with my experience from Eat Bulaga, other hosts and TVJ helped me grow as a host that can communicate with the audience well and be familiar with them, be friendly, and how to talk with them with feelings." Kim shared, noting how the show has opened doors for his dreams of pursuing a full-time singing and acting career in the Philippines.
What’s Next for Hyeonyul Kim?
Now a regular co-host on the longest-running noontime show, Yul is frequently seen in segments like Sugod Bahay, Mga Kapatid! and Gimme 5. Fans can also catch him showcasing his musical side; he recently trended for his soulful cover of Cup of Joe’s "Multo" and participates in Eat Bulaga’s "By Request" digital sessions.
With a growing fanbase and the backing of the biggest names in Philippine television, Hyeonyul Kim is living proof that the "Foreignoy" spirit is alive and well.
