The Philippine airwaves have lost one of its most distinct and beloved voices. Veteran radio personality and MOR 101.9 pioneer DJ Martin D has passed away at the age of 56.

His family shared the heartbreaking news through a statement on Facebook, confirming that the beloved broadcaster died on the morning of September 27, 2026.

"With deep sadness, we announce that our Papa, Mr. DJ Martin D, passed away this morning," his family wrote. "We are still trying to process this painful loss, but we want to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who has reached out, offered prayers, and extended their sympathy. Your kindness means the world to us during this incredibly difficult time."

While funeral arrangements and the exact cause of his passing have yet to be publicly disclosed, fans and colleagues have been looking back on his health journey. In previous statements, DJ Martin D opened up about managing his health after suffering a stroke in July 2018 and experiencing pleural effusion (excess fluid buildup around the lungs) in November 2023. Despite these challenges, he had assured followers that he was doing better and was practicing strict moderation with his lifestyle and diet.

A Pillar of Philippine Radio

DJ Martin D was a legendary fixture in the local broadcasting scene. He started his journey with MOR 101.9 back in 1996 when the station was still widely known as WRR 101.9 For Life, serving as a pillar of the network for two decades. For millions of Filipino listeners, his deep, resonant voice was a comforting companion through heavy traffic, late-night studies, office work, and daily household routines.

Tributes immediately poured in from friends and fellow broadcasters, including DJ Laila Chikadora, who remembered him fondly as a true icon of the industry.

"Napakalaking bahagi ka ng araw-araw na buhay ng karamihan... Hindi ka lang naging DJ sa radyo; naging kaibigan ka sa bawat tahanan at sasakyan na naabot ng boses mo," DJ Laila wrote in her tribute. "Magpahinga ka na sa mga ulap, Pilot of the Airwaves. Malungkot ang ere kung wala ka, pero mananatiling buhay ang boses mo sa aming mga puso, FOR LIFE!"

The loss of DJ Martin D marks the end of an era for classic Philippine FM radio, but his legacy and the memories he created over the airwaves will forever remain etched in the hearts of his listeners.

Rest in peace, Pilot of the Airwaves.
