The iconic 1984 coming-of-age classic that defined a generation is officially getting a theatrical makeover. Bagets: The Musical is set to open this January 23, 2026, at the Newport Performing Arts Theater, bringing the vibrant energy of the 80s to the modern stage.

A New Generation of Icons

Replacing the legendary shoes of Aga Muhlach, Herbert Bautista, and Raymond Lauchengco is a fresh crop of talented Gen Z stars. Produced by Viva Communications, Newport World Resorts, and The Philippine STAR, the musical features a powerhouse alternating cast:

 * Adie: Andres Muhlach (son of original star Aga Muhlach) and Mico Hendrix Chua.

 * Arnel: KD Estrada and Ethan David.

 * Gilbert: Noel Comia Jr. and Tomas Rodriguez (of ALAMAT).

 * Topee: Jeff Moses and Sam Shoaf.

 * Tonton: Milo Cruz and Migo Valid.

Not Just a Trip Down Memory Lane
While the musical retains the "rad" 80s spirit—complete with mixtapes and denim jackets—director Maribel Legarda and playwright J-mee Katanyag (the creative minds behind PETA’s Rak of Aegis) are introducing a fresh lens.

Unlike the original film, which focused primarily on the boys' escapades, this adaptation explores the "female gaze" and the complex mother-son relationships. It addresses timeless issues of identity, family disconnect, and the search for belonging, making it just as relevant for today’s "gadget-heavy" youth as it was for the walkman-toting teens of 1984.

Production & Ticket Details

The show is a massive collaboration between PETA Plus and Viva, ensuring a high-energy production filled with OPM hits and dynamic choreography by JM Cabling.

 * Venue: Newport Performing Arts Theater, Pasay City.

 * Run Dates: January 23 – March 2026.

Whether you're a "Batang 80s" looking to relive your youth or a Gen Zer curious about the hype, Bagets: The Musical promises a "growing up" story that proves some things—like friendship—never go out of style.
